Blog Book Tour Day 7

posted Friday, 23 February 2007

Well, I'm more than a little excited about today's blog tour. Especially since I'm only traveling around the corner. My wonderful friend, Laura Christianson, is allowing me to visit on her MOST AMAZING blog, Exploring Adoption. Come check it out!

I think more than anyone else (okay, except my agent Chip MacGregor, who can never remember the capital of New Hampshire. It's Concord, Chip. CONCORD), Laura has had the most profound affect on my writing career. For the past five years, Laura has coached me, trained me, edited me, cheered for me, cried with me, and consumed gallons of Starbucks coffee with me.

The woman knows her stuff.

And she's got two of her own books coming out soon. Here's the skinny:

Among many other things, Laura is an author and freelance writer who specializes in adoption related issues. An adoptive parent herself, Laura has written numerous articles and essays for national and regional publications on the subject of adoption as well as general-interest subjects. She's kind of an adoption guru, without the shaved head.

On August 1, 2007, Harvest House Publishers will release her first book, The Adoption Decision: 15 Things You Want To Know Before Adopting.

Book Description:

You’ve decided to adopt a child. Your friends gush, “You’re a saint!” Or they respond, “You’re crazy!”

You secretly wonder whether you’re ready to handle the challenges of adoptive parenting. You wonder:

  • Will I be able to fully love my adopted child?
  • Will my extended family accept my child?
  • Can I afford sky-high adoption fees?
  • What are birth parents really like?
  • If the adoption fails, will I be able to bear it?
  • Will an older, emotionally-scarred child be able to bond with me?
  • If I adopt, will I get pregnant?
  • What skills do I need to parent a child who’s been institutionalized?
  • Will open adoption confuse my child?
  • How much prejudice will my transracial, transcultural family face?

It’s time to bring your fears out of hiding. In The Adoption Decision: 15 Things You Need to Know Before Adopting, educator Laura Christianson helps you boldly confront your insecurities about adoption.

Infused with engaging vignettes, dry humor, common-sense advice, and biblical encouragement, this “how to for the heart” will thoroughly prepare you—and those in your support network—to welcome your child with joy.

Available August 1, 2007 (Harvest House Publishers)

Also being released this summer, is Laura's companion book, The Adoption Network: Your Guide to Starting a Support System (WinePress Publishing).

Book Description:

Do you desire to develop an adoption support community but aren’t sure how to start?

The Adoption Network simplifies the process. This handbook contains all the essentials for launching an adoption support system in your church or community.

Laura Christianson, founder and director of Seattle-based Heartbeat Ministries, walks you step-by-step through:
  • Developing a mission statement
  • Planning a budget
  • Recruiting leadership
  • Reaching out to the community
  • Creating workshops, support groups, social events, mentoring programs, and more

Packed with practical pointers and worksheets, The Adoption Network is a must-have planning tool for anyone who wants to reach out to adoptive and foster families, birth parents, and adopted people.

The Adoption Network: Your Guide to Starting a Support System, will release in the summer of 2007.

Laura is one of my favorite people too. While I've only known her for a year, she is the primary reason that I have an award-winning blog!
