I recently discovered Shoutlife, a free Christian owned and operated public blog website. I think it took me all of about three minutes to get my profile page up and running and within ten minutes I already had my first friend requests and comments rolling in.
As an author, I've enjoyed meeting other writers as well as avid readers. I've sold a few books, networked with fellow believers, and learned a thing or two about the "bidness" of writing.
Like any online community function, you have to play smart (beware of web wackos). But I think it's a much better alternative to myspace, which tends to attract some truly dangerous dudes.
My most important word of caution: Limit yourself. Set a timer. Find an accountability partner. Okay, that may be going a little too far - but be careful or you may find yourself sucked into the black hole of procrastination leaving little room for other, more important things like laundry. . . .or . . . . bill paying . . . . or toilet scrubbing. . . . or . . . .
The site is nice, but it is not a Christian MySpace. It is more of a
Christian Forum with Blogs that allows (like most forums) users to have a
simple profile. No doubt it is kewl, but to compare to MySpace, it must
possess at least some of the main features. For that, there are plenty to
choose from of which many I am a member of currently. The one I use the
most due to speed and ease of use (and similarity to MySpace) is
www.DittyTalk.com.
