Review of Nanny McPhee - "You'll Learn To Love Her. Warts And All."

Genres: Fantasy, Comedy, Family

MPAA: PG for mild thematic elements, some rude humor [very minimal], and brief language

Just for the record, I do watch grown up movies. Occasionally. And the five star rating barely has anything to do with the fact that Colin Firth (AKA: Mr. Darcy of Pride & Prejudice infamy) stars in this truly delightful movie. A movie, I might add, that lives up to its fantasy genre. There's a bit of unexplained mysterious magic, a vibrant use of color, and er . . . .  (warning: Spoiler!) a dancing donkey. A cross between Mary Poppins, Series of Unfortunate Events, and The Sound of Music,  the seven naughty Brown children in this adaptation of the book, Nurse Matilda, meet their match in the stern figure of Nanny McPhee. She is as loving and kind as she is foreboding with her unibrow and prominent facial warts. But as the children reap the consequences for their actions for the first time in their lives, they learn five valuable lessons deemed necessary by Nanny McPhee, whom they also learn to love in the process. I think this movie is another great family film, it’s entertaining with some valuable life lessons tossed in for good measure.

Oh, and by the way - it's very British, so be prepared.
