Review of The Five People You Meet in Heaven
I did not have time to read this book. Yet amid book deadlines, little league baseball games, birthday celebrations, and preparing for my first television interview, I read Mitch Albom's book in one sitting. With one eye on the clock I turned every page thinking, "Okay, I'll stop after this chapter." I couldn't stop and ended up staying up way too late. But it was worth it. Mitch Albom's unique story explores the painful truths of despair, loneliness, abuse, regrets, and the apparent meaningless of everyday events. And then he tenderly reveals the beauty of redemption, forgiveness, love, and purpose in light of the pain. I thoroughly enjoyed Albom's characterization and unique portrayal of Heaven. Let me clarify: this is FICTION. While I liked Albom's rendering of Heaven, I don't necessarily agree with it. There is very little mention of God or Jesus Christ. Like many feel-good books, man is front and center of the plot and the message. As a Christian, I would have enjoyed more mention of God and His participation and sovereignty in the mundane, the everyday matters that make up our lives.Still, it was a wonderful book, well worth the lost sleep I accrued. You probably don't have time to read this book either. But let me tell you, it will be worth it.
glad you also liked reading this book! i also made a review. yup it's
fiction so we don't see much of mentioning God's name/participation in the
book except for the latter part (though really not at all!). But i think
the author meant to direct it to all people without being biased to any
religion. heaven is what we define it as is on earth :) though that would
really be bad if that was the case. hehehe... :)
